A message from Tony Allcock MBE - Bowls England Chief Executive Bowls England is committed to helping clubs to increase participation in our sport. Falling participation is a problem for most sports, not just bowls, but we all have a role to play if we are to encourage new people to try our sport for the first time - and to continue playing for many years to come.
Following many requests for publicity material from clubs, Bowls England has produced a number of posters and leaflets that can be personalised for your clubs' own use as part of Bowls England's 'Bowls - The Sport for All' campaign. This campaign has been designed to reflect the unique position that our sport holds, with its capacity to engage participants of all ages and abilities. As you are aware, bowls offers members the opportunity to enjoy a vibrant social life and also offers many health benefits, especially to the older generation. I would also urge your club to consider what else it can do to attract new members, for example holding open days or challenge events with local groups. In doing so, I hope clubs will relax dress code regulations to any prospective new members so that they feel comfortable enought to just come along and have a bowl. Please also remember that if you are organising an open day that it is important to have enough help on hand to ensure visitors are well looked after. You may also wish to involve representatives from the English Bowls Coaching Scheme to offer advice - this is another service that Bowls England funds and therefore you are encouraged to make full use of this service. I do hope your club will be able to make use of the material provided. In return all that we ask is that you will inform us of the number of new members attracted so we can assess the campaign for the future. You will find below an order form that you can download and return to the Bowls England office in Worthing. Alternatively, you can download copies of the A4 poster and three-fold leaflet for your immediate use.
