Introduction
The Child Protection Act has many implications for clubs who have junior members or who are looking to attract new junior members.

We have tried to produce a "National Policy" for our sport with the help of the four National Governing Bodies and the English Bowls Coaching Scheme.

Although the two sets of papers may seem lengthy, they are so important. The following principles form the basis of these guidelines: -

The welfare of the child is paramount

Each child irrespective of age, gender, religion, race or disability has the right to protection from abuse

Allegations and suspicions of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately

Each child has the right to be safe and to be treated with respect and dignity

Coaches and other adults have recourse to any allegation made against them

Recognition that working in partnership with children, their parents or guardians, social services and other agencies is necessary for child welfare and protection.

Because of the differing references to ages in the Act we have not specified an upper age only that we recommend using 18 as the upper limit.

All clubs need to have a consent form signed for all junior members; a copy of the form is given in the attached notes.

THERE IS NOW A DEDICATED WEBSITE TO HELP WITH CHILD PROTECTION.
