Warwickshire's Ward wins NFU Mutual 55 & Over Singles

Warwickshire's Bill Ward today won the Bowls England 55 & Over Singles competition, sponsored by NFU Mutual.

The 66-year-old, who plays for the Royal Leamington Spa BC, beat Ian Wright of Maidenhead Town (Berkshire) 21-9 in the final at Beach House Park, Worthing.

Despite several previous visits to the national championships, this was Ward's first national success outdoors.

Ward had earlier beaten Colin Boyle of Portland Green, Northumberland whilst Wright had beaten Barry Patterson from Greenhill BC, Dorset.

Bill Ward (Royal Leamington Spa BC, Warks) bt Colin Boyle (Portland Green BC, N'land) 21-3;
Ian Wright (Maidenhead Town BC, Berks) bt Barry Patterson (Greenhill BC, Dorset) 21-16;
