Friends of English Bowling introduce reduced joining fee
The Friends of English Bowling has reduced its joining fee to just £10 to encourage new members.
Since it was started in 2005, the Friends has now provided more than £130,000 to support for the sport of outdoor flat green bowls in England.
This has included support at both the men's and women's national championships, and funding to enable hundreds of youngsters to enjoy an all-expenses day out at Worthing during the men's championships.
Benefits of membership include the opportunity to participate in a number of friendly matches during the season, plus free entry to the Men's National Championships and hospitality facilities at both Worthing and Royal Leamington Spa.
John Durston, Chairman of the Friends of English Bowling, explained: "The Friends gives everyone who has taken part and enjoyed the sport of bowls the opportunity to put something back into the game. In other words, individuals who would not be able to sponsor a major championship or development initiatives on their own can still, with others, provide money that can be used to support major championship events and competitions.
"On joining, members receive a lapel badge and regular newsletters regarding the sport of bowls. They can also nominate to take part in the friendly and social bowls matches that are organised each year."
Tony Allcock MBE, Bowls England Chief Executive, added: "Bowls England is very grateful for the support it receives from the 'The Friends'. This means all members get free entry to the National Championships at Worthing, and can also enjoy the facilities in the hospitality tents at Worthing and Leamington which include light refreshments."
Annual membership of the 'Friends' is £100 in addition to the £10 joining fee. For more information contact the Membership Secretary, Mike Poole, on 01707 320358 or e-mail: mikesarapoole@btinternet.com
