Warwickshire teenager retains Bowls International/Bowls England Young Woman Bowler of the Year title
Warwickshire's Jamie-Lea Winch has been named Bowls International/Bowls England Young Woman Bowler of the Year for the second successive year.
The 19-year-old, who plays for Bilton Bowls Club, won the British Isles Junior Singles title and made her senior international debut during a busy summer.
And these impressive performances helped Jamie-Lea to force her way into the England team for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
David Rhys Jones, who presented the award on behalf of Bowls International at the Women's Annual Dinner and Presentation on Friday 20th November, said: "Jamie-Lea, playing second to Ellen Falkner, turned in impressive performances on her senior international debut at the Les Creux club on the Channel Island of Jersey in June - so much so that she was promptly called up to the Commonwealth Games squad.
"Her burgeoning confidence showed when she went on to win the British Isles under 25 title in Ballymena, and I'm sure it was a dream-come-true when she was named by John Bell in England's six-strong Commonwealth Games team."
Jamie-Lea beat off stiff opposition from several other candidates including Debbie Sarratt (Surrey), Lorraine Kuhler (Sussex) and Annalisa Bellamy (Lincolnshire), plus her Commonwealth Games teammates from Devon Natalie Melmore and Sian Gordon to win the award.
Tony Allcock MBE, Chief Executive of Bowls England, added: "Jamie-Lea has shown that she can succeed at the highest level, and I am confident that her involvement with the Commonwealth Games team over the coming year will be of great benefit to her and England both now and in the future."
