Bowls England News

Is there cash in your attic or loot in your locker?

Lignum Vitae bowlsDo you have any large Lignum Vitae bowls gathering dust in your attic, garden shed, garage or locker? If so, and you'd like to cash them in, then Drakes Pride would like to hear from you.

Lignum Vitae is the timber traditionally used to make bowls, and Drakes Pride still use it today in the manufacture of crown green bowls.

The company is prepared to pay clubs or individuals up to £25 for pairs of Lignum Vitae bowls, subject to condition.

Peter Clare, Managing Director of Drakes Pride, explained: "We need good quality large Lignum Vitae lawn bowls that we can turn down to make crown green bowls.

"Most clubs will have lockers that haven't been opened in years and they may well hold what we are looking for. If a club has a reasonable quantity and gives us a call we will arrange an inspection.

"The bowls need to be in matching pairs of sound timber for which we will pay, after inspection, £20 a pair. If they are of exceptional quality we will pay £25 a pair."

Drakes Pride is once again sponsoring the Bowls England 'Club of the Year' competition.

Although Drakes Pride still uses Lignum Vitae in the production of some bowls, the majority are now made of a composition material.

If you have any bowls available, please contact Peter Clare at Drakes Pride on 0151 298 1355 or e-mail: DrakesPride@eaclare.co.uk
