Have your say on music licensing proposals

Bowls England is urging clubs to have their say on a proposed new music licence tariff for non-profit amateur sports clubs that is being consulted on by PRS for music. The Sport & Recreation Alliance, with support from Bowls England and other national governing bodies, has been in negotiation with PRS to secure a better deal for clubs. The new tariff is completely different and will be based on the size of membership and the use of any social areas. It looks like clubs could benefit from a cap on the maximum fee and a lower basic rate, but, without data from clubs showing whether the tariff really works, it's hard to say if the changes are for the good - so the more responses to the consultation the better. We believe that the tariff could still be improved, in particular for clubs that:are not open all year round, but just during their seasonopen social facilities only at the weekendsspecialise in youth provision who, in turn, use social facilities lessIf you agree, feel free to recommend that PRS should offer a reduced rate in these cases as well as feeding back on the merits of the proposal for your particular club.Full information can be found on PRS's website - click here.Additional information can be found on the Sport and Recreation Alliance website - click here. Please respond and let PRS know if it works for you!The deadline for responses is Tuesday 6th March.

Free energy audit to help bowls clubs reduce costs in 2012

Bowls England is delighted to announce energy consultancy Blue Castle Energy as official sponsors of the 2012 National Mixed Pairs competition.Blue Castle Energy, as part of its official sponsor package, is offering a free energy audit - covering gas, water and electricity - to all Bowls England affiliated clubs. There is no charge to clubs at any stage for the service provided - but potentially significant savings to be made.Neil Porteus, Manager of Sleaford Golf Club found Blue Castle Energy's help invaluable. He said: "I am pleased to say that through the diligence of Blue Castle Energy, we have managed to secure a two year contract which will stabilise our utility expenditure in a currently volatile environment."Steve Ince, Blue Castle Energy's Sport & Leisure Development Manager, said: "We recognise that all clubs are looking to save money in the current economic climate. Procuring energy at the right time, for the right period and with the right supplier is an essential part of our day to day business and I am confident that we can use our buying power to produce savings for many clubs. In addition, we have found in other sports that clubs have been overcharged for water usage and this money can be reclaimed back as far as six years depending on the club's supplier. I would like to reiterate that our service is totally free of charge to clubs and therefore I would urge all to contact us for an energy audit over the coming season."Tony Allcock MBE, Bowls England Chief Executive, added: "Many of our clubs who responded to last year's club survey, conducted by the Sport & Recreation Alliance, identified increased running costs as a concern. Therefore we are delighted to welcome Blue Castle Energy as sponsors of the National Mixed Pairs competition and would encourage our clubs to contact them for a free audit."For more information or to arrange a free energy audit for your club, contact Blue Castle Energy on 01400 283500 or go to: www.bluecastleenergy.co.ukTo participate in a survey focussing on the impact of utility costs for bowls clubs, please go to: www.surveymonkey.com/s/club_energy_survey
