A Note on England’s Absence from the 2026 European Championships

18th September, 2026

When planning the 2026 season, we made the difficult decision to not enter a team into the European Championships taking place in Llandrindod Wells, Wales this month.

As hosts of the 2027 World Bowls Championship, England have already qualified in all disciplines and, unlike other nations, do not receive funding for this event.

Dominic McVittie and Annie Dunham were crowned European Mixed Pairs Champions in 2025.

Therefore, we concluded that it would be best to prioritise investment in other areas that we felt would have a broader impact on our ‘Fit for the Future strategy‘.

We wish all the nations that are competing good luck for the tournament, and we look forward to seeing the qualifiers at Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa next summer.
