Aston Clinton Bowls Club, based in the village just outside Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, hosted its first session of Bowls Bash recently for members and guests – with the unusual twist of playing after dark!

Affectionately nicknamed “Twinkle Night”, strips of LED lights marked the rink edges and play commenced as dusk fell and continued until after dark, on what was a chilly but dry evening.

Players and guests thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, although they did have to occasionally use a torch to find the orange peg to indicate where to place the jack!

The club is now resuming daylight play of this new format, with Bowls Bash replacing the regular roll-up on the first Tuesday of each month through until September. The club also participated in the village’s Party in the Park to mark the King’s Coronation by offering Bowls Bash sessions during the afternoon to members of the public.
