B2022 | Day Seven Preview

3rd August, 2022

Journalist for the i newspaper, Bowls England National Finals commentator and a name well-known to bowlers, Emily Ferguson will be reviewing most days of the action at Victoria Park.

Jamie Walker continues his run in the Men’s Singles competition, where he will play Fiji at 8:30 am and Malaysia at 11:30am on the show rink. He will be hoping to secure at least one win to ensure he progresses to the Quarter Finals that start on Friday morning.

Even though other Women’s Pairs matches will be going ahead, Sophie Tolchard and Amy Pharaoh will have a day off today as they have played all their matches in the sectional play of the competition. Yesterday they booked their place in the Quarter Finals after recording an impressive three out of three wins and will play in the Quarter Finals on Friday morning. As other sections are still in play, the draw has not yet been made and England do not know who they will be playing.

The semi finals of the Para Mixed Pairs B2-B3 will take place at 6pm and our team will face Scotland on Rink 6. England came fourth in the sectional play of the competition.

In the Men’s Fours the section play will continue on Thursday but England have already played all their rounds. They finished top of their section so will compete in the Quarter Finals at 12pm on Friday. As with the Women’s Pairs, the England team do not yet know their opponents as other sections are still in play. If they win their match at midday Friday, they will play in the Semi Final at 4:30pm.

Jamie-Lea Winch, Natalie Chestney and Sian Honnor will play their Quarter Final game at 6pm today but do not yet know their opponents as the last rounds of the round robin play at 3pm. The trio will be very keen to get a win and reach the Semi Finals on Friday morning.

We have had many discussions with the BBC over the past few months and we hope to have lots more coverage as the tournament develops.
