We are delighted to announce that Alistair Hollis has been appointed as Team England’s Lawn Bowls Team Leader for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Alistair will act as our liaison with Commonwealth Games England (CGE) on key areas of team preparation including playing kit, maximising home advantage, accommodation, anti-doping and safeguarding education.
During the Games, he will provide logistical support on behalf of our selected team including scheduling, communications and transport.
Alistair said: “The Commonwealth Games is the pinnacle of the sport in Lawn Bowls and Birmingham 2022 will provide a ‘once in a generation’ opportunity to showcase our sport. Having worked extensively at bowls-specific events for several years, this will be my first experience at a Commonwealth Games. I look forward to supporting our Performance Director, John Mc Guinness, and the team throughout this journey.”
Alistair leads our work on communications, competitions and club support whilst providing support to our teams during international events. He has led our response to Covid-19 during the past few months. He will undertake the Team Leader role in addition to his current duties.
Mark England, Team England Chef de Mission, said: “Team Leaders play a pivotal role in the preparation of athletes and support staff in the lead up to and during the Commonwealth Games. It’s really encouraging that we have such a high-quality group as we prepare our sports for the Games in Birmingham. I’m confident they’ll ensure every athlete has everything they need to showcase their talent and achieve performance success on the home stage for Team England in less than two years’ time.”
The 2022 Commonwealth Games will commence on 28th July 2022, running through to 8th August, with the lawn bowls taking place at Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa.
