Building on the hugely successful 2021 and 2022 events Bowls’ Big Weekend returns to clubs across England between Friday May 26 and Monday May 29 2023.
Superb weather greeted this year’s event during which 735 Bowls England affiliated clubs opened their doors to a huge volume of newcomers.
Thanks to an army of dedicated volunteers and resource packs provided by Bowls England, clubs were decorated with banners, balloons and bunting while barbecues, cream teas and drinks made a very welcome accompaniment to the bowls.
And their efforts were rewarded with participating clubs attracting an average of 16.5 attendees each.
On the back of Team England’s brilliant display in last summer’s Birmingham Commonwealth Games it is hoped that Bowls Big Weekend – like Bowls Bash – will catch public attention across the age and ability range.
More information will be available to clubs early in 2023, however at this stage we encourage you to give some thought to days/times that your club can put aside to welcome new participants.
In particular, feedback has shown that the most successful clubs have generally concentrated effort on a single event during the three-day period rather than spreading resources across the three days.
The 2022 event generated some incredible feedback from people who had never picked up a bowl before and it is hoped that 2023 will be similarly successful.
