The Bowls England Awards Night promises to be a glittering evening celebrating the great contribution made by players, officials, clubs, counties & volunteers in the sport.

On Saturday 19th February, we will honour some of the amazing work in bowls over the 2021 season. Hosted at Athena in Leicester, an evening consisting of dinner, drinks, dancing and fun will recognise the fantastic efforts of the last 12 months from all corners of the bowls community.

A full list of Awards are below, some of which are open to nominations. These nominations are a chance to celebrate your efforts over the past 12 months, and have them officially recognised. We want to celebrate the amazing stories of 2021 and recognise the great contributions from the whole community. Tell us your story now!

England Senior Bowler of the Year - Men & Women
The outstanding man & woman who have represented England in senior international bowls, or performed exceptionally in National Championships, in 2021.

This award will be decided by the other England players, management staff and the international selectors.

England Rising Star - Men & Women
The outstanding man/boy & woman/girl who have represented England in junior international bowls, or performed exceptionally in National Championships, in 2021.

This award will be decided by the other England players, management staff and the international selectors.

Hall Of Fame
Each year, a new bowls luminary will be added to the Bowls England Hall of Fame.

This will recognise the immense contribution this individual has made to our sport, and will be decided by the Bowls England Board.

County of the Year
This award is for the County Association that has done the most outstanding work across all areas of management, competition success and new initiatives.

This award will be decided by an expert panel.

Club of the Year sponsored by Sutton Winson - Nominate Now
Similar to the County Award, this will celebrate a club that has achieved success across all areas of club management and new initiatives.

This award will be decided by an expert panel, but is open to nominations. You can nominate your club for this award by clicking here.

Team of the Year - Nominate Now
This award recognises the team that has performed admirably on the green over the past 12 month, at national, county or club level. That could be a team of any size, from Pairs all the way up to a Middleton or Johns.

Story of the Year - Nominate Now
A staple of the Bowls England calendar, this accolade celebrates an incredible marketing initiative at club or county level which has led to a growth in participation, or has increased exposure for the sport.

This award is now open for nominations, which you can do by clicking here. This will be shortlisted by an expert panel, with an online vote held to determine the winner.

Greenkeeper of the Year, sponsored by Dennis Mowers - Nominate Now
This prize will be awarded to a greenkeeper at a club who has done outstanding work on their green which has helped increase participation.

Coach of the Year - Nominate Now
Celebrating the best of the coaching community in England, this gong will honour the outstanding coach of the past 12 months, inspiring all participants.

Official of the Year - Nominate Now

This award will be presented to the umpire who has gone above and beyond in 2021. Their work will have helped deliver great experiences for participants this year.

Bowls Maker of the Year
Volunteers are the lifeblood of our sport, and this honour is specifically for the outstanding volunteer at Bowls England events, such as the National Finals.

This will be decided by an expert panel, with the shortlist drawn up by the Bowls England team.

Unsung Hero - Nominate Now
Our sport is full of people who work tirelessly behind the scenes. This accolade will recognises someone who has contributed impressively to any area of voluntary activity to support the delivery of our sport.

Certificate of Merit - Nominate Now
Our equivalent to a Lifetime Achievement Award, this will recognise someone who has made an outstanding contribution throughout their lives for a number of years.

How much is a ticket?
Prices for an individual ticket are £39.50 and to book a table of 10 is £370.
How do I buy tickets?

Book your tickets online today by visiting our ticketing page.

To book online, select your preferred ticket, either group or single seat(s), and then choose your meal preferences.

Who can come?

Everyone! The Bowls England Awards Night is a fantastic opportunity to recognise bowls’ most deserving grassroots volunteers, officials and players for their outstanding achievements over the past 12 months.

How will we be seated?

If you book a table, you will be seated with the people you list.

If you book individual seats, we cannot guarantee who you will be sat on a table with.

Do we offer refunds?

Tickets are transferable but not refundable (unless COVID related). If they are transferred after Friday 4th February, we will not be able to accommodate changes to the printed name card, meal choice and seating plan.

If you are unable to attend the event and you have already bought a ticket, you are welcome to let a friend or relative use this ticket in your absence. Please contact varsha.ragoobarsing@bowlsengland.com for any enquires regarding refunds, bookings and any other concerns or queries you may have  .

If you are unable to attend due to COVID, we will issue a refund. We will need to see proof of either a positive test, or a notice of the requirement to self isolate.

What if the event is cancelled or postponed?

We’re doing everything we can to celebrate the incredible work of the bowls community. Whilst we cannot control lockdown measures, we can guarantee that you will not lose the value of any tickets you purchase for the Awards Dinner. If a lockdown is enforced and we are no longer able to host the Awards Night as planned, we will provide all customers with a number of options to consider.

If I am showing symptoms of COVID, what should I do?

We ask anyone with symptoms of Coronavirus to not attend the Bowls England Awards Night. If you have symptoms or are self-isolating, please let us know at least four hours prior to the event.

We want to ensure we run this event as safely as possible and kindly request all guests to take a Lateral Flow test prior to arrival.

Do I need to show a ticket to get into the event?

For this event we will send you an email confirmation after booking. As we will have a guest list on the door, you will not need to bring the confirmation with you.

What should I do if I do not receive an email confirmation

If you have booked as part of a table of 10, the email confirmation will be sent to the lead booker’s inbox.

If you have not received your confirmation as expected, please first check your spam and junk email folders. If you still cannot find your confirmation, please contact katy.shilladay@bowlsengland.com

What time do the doors open?

Doors open at 6.15 pm for a drinks reception.

Can I purchase tickets on the door for this event?

No. To attend this event, you must have pre-bought a ticket. Tickets can be purchased until Friday 4th February.

Who is invited to the VIP reception?

There will be a VIP reception hosted by our Board and Presidential Team. Amongst the invitees will be BE Presidents, BE Board, BE Life Members, BE Hon Members, BE Past Presidents, Shortlisted VIPs and County Administrators.

I have brought a ticket and have been shortlisted, what do I do?
Congratulations on making the short list! If you have already purchased a ticket Bowls England will offer a full refund. Please contact varsha.ragoobarsing@bowlsengland.com.

Alternatively, you can transfer your ticket to a family member or a friend.

How do I get to the Athena?

The Athena is based in the heart of Leicester’s Cultural Quarter. The City Centre location makes the venue accessible both by car and public transport.

By Car

On arrival into Leicester, follow signs for the Cultural Quarter. If you are using a satellite navigation system to reach us, please enter the postcode LE1 1SB.

All Leicestershire bus services have stops within a 3 to 10-minute walk of the Athena. Services that stop on or near Charles Street, Humberstone Gate or at Haymarket Bus Station are the closest.

Regional bus services terminate at St Margaret’s Bus Station, Gravel Street, LE1 3AG (12 minutes walk from the Athena).

By Train

Leicester Train Station is less than 10 minutes’ walk away via Charles Street.
