Bowls England is delighted to learn that Bowls will be one of the ten sports included in the Commonwealth Games to be staged in Glasgow, Scotland from 23rd July to 2nd August 2026 (provisional dates).
The Commonwealth Games is the pinnacle event for our sport. It creates unparalleled levels of visibility, inspires new people to take up Bowls and provides a North Star for our leading bowlers. The inclusion of the Para disciplines will continue to highlight our sport’s inclusive qualities, and we are excited to build on the successes of Birmingham 2022.
Bowls England understands that these Games will be different than previous versions in terms of the number of athletes, the format and the facilities where our sport is played. We look forward to working with our international federation World Bowls, Commonwealth Games England, Sport England and the English Indoor Bowling Association to maximize this opportunity.
Jon Cockcroft, Chief Executive of Bowls England stated,
“The inclusion of Bowls in the Glasgow 2026 competition programme is fantastic news for our sport. Working across the flat green bowls community, we will do everything possible to ensure this unique platform showcases the very best of our sport, engenders pride amongst existing bowlers and encourages more people to participate.”
