Broadway Bowls Club in Worcestershire hosted its very first Bowls Bash session on Friday 6th June, drawing 28 players for an afternoon of fun, fast-paced bowls. The event marked the club’s continuing efforts to offer more casual, accessible opportunities to engage with the sport.

The idea took root during the Herefordshire & Worcestershire County Development Roadshow, where club representatives first saw Bowls Bash in action. They were quick to get involved, receiving a branded Bowls Bash pack, including a bright 2m x 3m banner ready to display on the High Street to attract interest from passers-by.

Jasbir Batt, Clubs and Participation Officer at Bowls England, attended the launch session and saw first-hand the enthusiasm of participants. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many recognising the format’s potential to bring in new members and generate additional income, both high priorities for many clubs.

Mark Riley, Chairman of Broadway BC, said: “Broadway BC recently hosted a Bowls Bash taster session that proved to be a great success, drawing a good crowd and earning enthusiastic feedback from all who participated. The session was widely enjoyed, with many positive comments received.”

He added that while the club’s more socially oriented bowlers saw it as an occasional activity rather than a regular staple, the club strongly believes Bowls Bash is a fantastic fit for newcomers.

“It offers an accessible and engaging introduction to bowls for those who have never played before,” he said.

Looking ahead, Broadway is already building on the success of the first session. A local school is booked to take part in Bowls Bash next week, a great step toward introducing the next generation to the sport.

In partnership with the Bowls Development Alliance, Bowls England will continue to support Broadway Bowls Club as they grow their Bowls Bash offer and explore how it can become a valuable part of their community engagement.
