Bowls’ Big Weekend showcased our sport to thousands of first-timers, with Bearsted & Thurnham BC in Kent truly grasping the opportunity with both hands.
Our national initiative provided the chance for friends and family to give bowls a go. Up and down the country, over 600 Bowls England affiliated bowls clubs opened their doors to people who want to try a new sport, have some fun and meet new people.
We headed to Maidstone to chat to those trying our sport for the first time, with Commonwealth Games star Sian Honnor on hand to offer her advice along with many club volunteers.
The club welcomed more than 100 visitors to their Bowls’ Big Weekend event, offering plenty of time on the green testing their skills, meeting the friendly club members and advising how prospective new members can be part of their local club.
They offered fun competitions, refreshments and lots of laughs, putting measures in place to ensure the experience was delivered in a Covid-safe manner.
