Clubs Out In Force For Her Majesty’s Jubilee

2nd June, 2022

Congratulations to HM The Queen on her Platinum Jubilee!

Today marks the beginning of Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. HM The Queen is our patron and will be at the centre of celebrations across the nation as she will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service. With there being a variety of ways to get involved in the celebrations, we have heard from some bowls clubs about what exciting events they have planned to enjoy the prodigious occasion.

Berkhamsted BC, Hertfordshire

Berkhamsted BC have come up with an exceptional idea and are hosting a Bowls Jubilee Jamboree event. They have even gone as far as creating a stunning logo for their event (pictured left).

Their event will be based around a professional chef brought in to do a hog roast with music, decorations and fun bowls challenges on the green reflecting the Queen’s reign.

The six bowls challenges on their green have been custom built for the event to look both very exciting and unique. Each challenge has been given a special name too! The six challenges are titled; Champagne Launch, Red Carpet, Windsor Castle, Tiara, Tower Bridge and Royal Ascot.

Berkhamsted BC are now fully booked and are set to have over 100 people attending. It promises to be a popular and enjoyable way for the club’s members, their families and friends to mark the momentous occasion.

Littleport BC, Cambridgeshire

Littleport BC are holding a Red, White and Blue Triples match for their members. Each member of the team will wear one of the colours of the Union Jack and there will be a prize for the best dressed team. After bowling, they will be enjoying roast beef and pulled pork rolls.

A raffle will also be held and will also be announcing the winner of their Penny Raffle. Littleport BC’s charity for this year is the East Anglian Air Ambulance and any proceeds will go to the cause. After decorating their club for their Bowls’ Big Weekend event, they have added to these decorations for the Jubilee.

They always have good support at these events with over 40 members due to attend a brilliant day at the club.

White Hall BC, Essex

White Hall Bowling Club will be celebrating Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee with a game of bowls on Sunday 5th June. Drinks will be served at the end of play with a Royal Toast in celebration of Her Majesty. Members and guests will then be invited to sit down to an Afternoon Tea Party in the Club Pavilion.

To commemorate the occasion, seven Gold Crest Conifers trees have been planted supporting HM The Queen’s Green Canopy Scheme “Plant a Tree for The Jubilee.” Gold Crest Conifers help keep gnats at bay whilst playing bowls in the evening!

White Hall BC continue to celebrate the Jubilee with a “Windsor Bowls Coach Jolly” to visit fellow bowlers for a friendly game with Windsor & Eton BC in their centenary year. The icing on the cake for club secretary,  John Foster, is that he will be playing with the aid of his new Bowls Royce wheelchair.

The purchase of this wheelchair is due to the kindness that John received as a Bowler with a Disability. He applied and received a grant from Paul Brown, Chairperson of The British Wheelchair Bowls Associations Committee.
