In 2021, Consett Park BC participated in Bowls’ Big Weekend and in doing so, they went into the hat for the Bowls’ Big Weekend Prize Draw.
Consett Park of Durham were the lucky club that won First Prize. The club won a tailored coaching session for club members with Bowls England’s Mal Evans, the first Level 3 qualified coach through the Coach Bowls programme. Consett Park BC also secured £400 credit towards the club’s shirts for 2022.
The coaching session took place on the morning of Saturday 30th April, with Consett Park BC being graced with glorious sunshine for the occasion and was attended by Bowls Durham County Secretary, Foster Johnson. Mal Evans delivered an excellent training session, which was both informative and enjoyable.
All members, new and old, taking part commented on how valuable the coaching session was and how it has enhanced their abilities.
Consett Park BC concluded, “We found the session enlightening, as it covered a number of coaching techniques to ensure your body was ready by performing a pre match warm up. Along with how to position yourself on the mat, ensuring your alignment of body and target were correct. Then the delivery of the jack and your bowl, to the best effect. We finished the session with some match tactics. Mal’s presentation was full of great advice, enthusiasm and fun which made it very enjoyable for all the members. We are all very grateful to have had the opportunity of the coaching session from such an experienced coach.”
