Oxford City and County BC in Oxfordshire plays host once again for our Under 18’s Open Singles Tournament. 64 juniors will take to the greens to compete.
The two-day event across Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th May is the first of our events of the 2024 season.
Amongst the juniors hoping for glory are the reigning British Isles Under 18 champion Charlie Beeton (Suffolk), who won the event last year, 2023 Under 18 Singles Plate winner Finley Williamson (Gloucestershire) and Leicestershire’s Tegan Grewal, who was part of the successful Under 18 international squad in 2023.
Bowls England Performance Team members will be in attendance over the weekend, eager to see the emerging talent coming through in the sport.
Play on Saturday will start with the 64 players divided into three groups of a maximum of 24. Each player will play three matches within their group.
At the end of the group stage the competitors will be seeded depending on their performance with those in the top 32 qualifying for the main event, those outside the top 32 will still have a chance of glory, participating in the Under 18 Singles plate competition. Both will be played to a conclusion on Sunday 14th May.
The top men’s performer in the main competition will be invited to represent England in this year’s British Isles Men’s Under 18 Singles at Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa on the 26th and 27th June.
The event is free to attend and we welcome spectators to support the competitors. Refreshments will be on offer throughout the weekend – Oxford City & County Bowls Club, Marston Ferry Road, Oxford OX2 7EE.
