Bowls England is delighted to announce its team for the new-look European Championships to be held in Ayr, Scotland from Saturday 9 to Thursday 14 July inclusive.
The tournament will be the 13th European Bowls Championships and is open to all member countries of Bowls Europe.
The selected team has a youthful feel with a number of senior internationals joined by members of the England junior squads. The women’s line-up includes Somerset’s Stef Branfield, who enjoyed a glittering 2021, whilst Essex’s Ed Morris will be an integral part of the men’s team.
Each country can enter up to 5 women and 5 men players, who will compete against each other in Women’s and Men’s Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours. This is a similar format played in the World Championships and the Commonwealth Games.
Performance Director John McGuinness said “It’s a great achievement for the selected athletes. This is a great opportunity for these players to experience international-level tournament bowls in a format that replicates both Commonwealth Games and World Championships. It will stand them in good stead for the future. I am excited to see what the teams, managed by Nicola Bowe and Stuart Thomas, can achieve.
“These players will all have ambitions to play at future Commonwealth Games’ and this is a fantastic chance for them to further those chances.”
