Bowls England is delighted to announce its representatives to attend the Hong Kong International Bowls Classic from Saturday 9th November to Sunday 17th November.
Devon’s Harriett Stevens will be returning to Hong Kong following her silver-medal winning performance in 2023, and this year will be joined by fellow Kings BC teammate Emma Cooper.
Also making a return to the Classic will be Kent’s Harry Goodwin (Appleyard BC) and Buckinghamshire’s Tom McGuinness (Gerrards Cross BC), making up the four-strong England team.
They will participate in Singles and Pairs events for both men and women during the event.
Returning for 2024, Harriett Stevens, reflects on her 2023 experience and looks ahead to this year’s event:
“I’m absolutely delighted to be selected to represent England at the 2024 Hong KongInternational Bowls Classic and look forward to attending this year with fellow Kings BC teammate, Emma [Cooper]. I’m excited to once again participate in what is a fantastic event with some of the top ranked players from countries around the world, who make this a highly competitive tournament. Of course, the main objective is to go out there and perform as best we can but naturally, I’m looking to improve on last year’s performance that saw us return as silver medallists and return this year with Gold!”
On her confidence in the team, Performance Director, Mo Monkton, said:
“I am very happy to support the selection of Emma, Harriet, Harry and Tom to represent Bowls England in the 2024 Hong Kong International Classic and am confident that they will be great ambassadors for England, on and off the greens. They are all in good form and will travel to Hong Kong in November with the desire and determination to medal in both the Singles and Pairs events.
Emma has experience of playing on the greens having competed in the 2018 event and will pair with Harriet who narrowly lost in last year’s final. Harry and Tom built up a great partnership in last year’s event and their experience of the greens and venue will give them the confidence to aim for Gold.
I wish them every success and look forward to following their progress.”
The Hong Kong International Bowls Classic was first introduced in 1981, with a goal of providing an opportunity for local lawn bowlers to play against top class international bowlers. Over the years, the Classic has grown into one of the best outdoor bowls tournaments in the world.
