Founded in 1920 Shiplake Village Bowling Club is a fully mixed club of medium size with superb facilities set in a rural location with ample free parking and a varied programme of events. Members come from outside the area of Shiplake itself and we strive to maintain a friendly atmosphere of the smaller village club. In all our weekend and mid-week inter club matches, some 60% of which are "friendlies" and the rest in the leagues in which we play, we field mixed teams of ladies and men.
In addition, we have a men's team which competes in the Oxford & District Bowls League, playing their matches on Thursday evenings, while the ladies compete in the County Top Club team competition and have some afternoon friendly Ladies matches against other local clubs. We also have a number of internal competitions and club matches for various cups and trophies. On Monday afternoons we have a social Points session, regular 'roll-ups' on the green and on Friday evenings social bowling and get together.
During the winter we run some social events such as crib, bingo and quizes.
The day to day running of the club is managed by a committee of members elected at the Annual General Meeting, active participation is encouraged.
