Every year, millions of pounds worth of grants and awards are available, which could help clubs to buy new equipment and improve their facilities.

Bowls England helps affiliated clubs to find out more information on the funding opportunities available to them by providing a comprehensive report that highlights potential funding opportunities that clubs might be eligible to apply for.

Bowls England also recommends that clubs speak further with their council and/or local Active Partnership for information on additional funding streams and to potentially assist with any funding applications that clubs may make.

Grant Funding Opportunities

Sport England
Sport England offers a number of funding programmes that are open to sports clubs. Details can be found on the Sport England website at: https://www.sportengland.org/how-we-can-help/our-funds

National Lottery
Lottery Funding is a joint website run by all Lottery funders in the UK.

Civil Liability Insurance (via Sutton Winson) Sutton Winson Ltd offers Civil Liability Insurance to all Bowls England Affiliated Clubs and Associations.

All Civil Liability Insurance Policies run from 1st April each year, for 12 months.

The policy provides Civil Liability cover for £5,000,000 (with an option to increase to £10,000,000, Employers Liability for £10,000,000 and Directors and Officers Liability for £250,000.

Club Loan Bowls England offers all affiliated clubs the opportunity to apply for a Club Loan of up to £20,000.

The Club Loans Scheme, which now incorporates the former Greens Loans Scheme, is just one of the many practical ways that Bowls England helps its member clubs.

A total of £650,000 is allocated to support clubs affiliated to Bowls England who wish to improve their facilities, dependent on current funds available.

Email enquiries@bowlsengland.com providing the following information:

  • Name of Club
  • Amount required
  • How long
  • Project outline and/or copies of any relevant receipts
  • Details of other funding secured (if relevant)
  • Number of club members
  • Financial statements (for information only – not as a judgment on application)
  • Name/address of two club members willing to stand as guarantors

Please note: Clubs must have been affiliated for three years prior to application and must remain affiliated for the duration of loan period.

Coaching Bursary The Bowls England Coaching Bursary helps members of affiliated clubs to obtain a Coach Bowls qualification.

Bowls England will pay 50 per cent of the relevant course fee for successful applicants.

Two applications per club in any period of two years

Greens Maintenance Bursary The Bowls England Greens Maintenance Scheme helps members of affiliated clubs to obtain a Greens Maintenance qualification.

Attending a recognised greens maintenance course

All successful applicants will be reimbursed up to 50% of the relevant course fee, up to a total of £200 per affiliated club, per year.

Greens Maintenance Helpline The principle aim of the scheme is to offer practical assistance to any club whose green needs attention in the quickest and simplest manner possible.

The scheme is geared to getting advice promptly – the remedy and the work involved (together with any costs) will be the responsibility of the club.

Complete the form at www.bowlsengland.com/greens-advisory-service providing as much information as possible (including photographs if applicable) and you will be put in touch with a sympathetic and knowledgeable ear.

Our aim is for the majority of problems, particularly the panic situations, to be dealt with promptly.

Legal Helpline Bowls England offers a free legal helpline that is available to assist all affiliated clubs and county associations with a range of preliminary enquiries, for example with regard to leases, constitutions and disciplinary matters.

Should an enquiry require more detailed advice following the initial enquiry, clubs will be responsible for arranging their own legal service and meeting costs incurred.

Please include copies of any written documentation in support of your enquiry – this could include e-mails/letters/leases/constitutions etc
Recruitment Material Our ‘Bowls – The Sport for All’ campaign is designed to reflect the unique position that our sport holds, with its capacity to engage participants of all ages and abilities.

Over the years clubs across our 35 counties have ordered hundreds of thousands of individual items including leaflets, drop cards and posters, to assist them with their recruitment drives.

Overall, the free recruitment material has been well received with positive feedback regarding the addition of new members from many of those clubs who have participated.

Bowls Development Alliance – Club Development Programme The Club Development Programme offers Bowls England and EIBA-affiliated clubs across the country unique support to develop and better sustain their current membership numbers and recruit new members into the sport.

Each club involved is allocated one of our Club Development Officers who will be working with the club committee throughout their engagement in the programme.

Bowls Development Alliance – Play Bowls Packages £250 is available for affiliated Bowls England and English Indoor Bowls Association (EIBA Ltd) to deliver a Play Bowls Day (Open Day) followed by 4 x Play Bowls 4 Fun sessions, which are an informal, relaxed, coaching session with the emphasis on fun and enjoyment! Clubs can apply for one package per year during a package application window and it is open to all affiliated Bowls England and English Indoor Bowls Association (EIBA Ltd) clubs that have a Coach Bowls registered or Coach Bowls Qualified coach.
