Sam Tolchard strengthened his bid for a medal at Glasgow 2026 on Day 2 of the Commonwealth Games with a convincing victory over Pakistan’s Mohammad Ayub Qureshi.
Tolchard pulled away in the middle of both sets to win 10-2, 15-1, which not only gives him an important two-set win but also a competitive shot difference of +22.
The group are chasing Fijian, Rajnesh Prasad, who remained undefeated with a huge win over Scotland’s Jason Banks.
England’s Women’s Pairs duo of Amy Pharaoh and Sian Honnor kept their clean record going, beating a tricky Malta team 3-2, 8-2 to go top of Group B.
The first set was extremely tense, with each end coming down to a one shot difference.
With the score set at 2-2 going into the final end, the umpire was called and England got the nod on a tight measure.
The second set looked to be going the same way, but a brilliant third end from England secured four and they never looked back.
The VI Para Mixed Pairs team had another long day to navigate, with matches against South Africa and Scotland on the menu.
Much like Day 1, Ron Homer BEM, Sally-Ann Lewis-Wall and their Directors, Sue Davies and Elizabeth Shipley came away with one win and one loss and sit fourth in the table.
The early session saw England in dominant form, taking both sets with an 8-2, 6-1 score line to cement a strong position in the group.
In the late session, England ran into a Scotland team that played a superb game, clinching the first set with a well-timed three in the fifth set and building an insurmountable lead in the second to take it 8-1.
England now face a must-win game vs Australia tomorrow which may determine who makes the semi-finals and a chance at a medal.
