Great opening day for England at Four Nations event

England’s Performance Squad enjoyed an incredible opening day of the Four Nations event, winning 10 of the 12 disciplines played.

Session 1: England bt Ireland 6-2
England secured victory on three of the four disciplines against Ireland, with Sophie Tolchard, Jamie-Lea Winch, Ellen Falkner MBE and Amy Gowshall in tremendous form to record a 22-8 victory in the Women’s Fours against Ashleigh Rainey, Chloe Wilson, Courtney Meneely and Shauna O’Neil.

Louis Ridout, Ed Morris and Sam Tolchard’s 15-9 winning scoreline in the Men’s Triples was backed up by a tight 15-13 win for Nick Brett and Jamie Walker in the Men’s Pairs, to ensure a great opening session for the men’s representatives.

An under-the-weather Natalie Chestney almost performed a great recovery from a 4-18 deficit in the singles against youngster Lara Reaney. Chestney won the next six ends with a 12-1 advantage, before falling just short at 16-21.

Session 2: England bt Wales 8-0
What a performance! Despite early deficits of 7-0 and 5-0 in the Men’s Pairs and Men’s Triples respectively, it was a dominant performance by all 10 players to secure victory across all four disciplines with an overall shots advantage of +34.

Amy Gowshall recovered from a 9-13 scoreline to win by six shots, with Nick Brett and Jamie Chestney scoring 18 shots in seven ends to overturn 0-7 into an 18-9 advantage.

With scores level at 10-10 at 13 ends in the Men’s Triples, Louis Ridout, Jamie Walker and Sam Tolchard scored with all six shots on the 14th end, en route to winning 18-12, while Jamie-Lea Winch, Katherine Rednall, Lorraine Kuhler and Sian Honnor recorded another great win for England in the Women’s Fours with a 22-10 victory

Session 3: England bt Scotland 6-2
Incredible wins across three disciplines secured a great victory over Scotland in the final session on the opening day of the Four Nations event at Victoria Park. Katherine Rednall suffered a heavy defeat to Dee Hoggan, who was on incredible form, but wins in the Pairs, Triples and Fours ensured six points went England’s way.

Jamie Walker and Sam Tolchard enjoyed a 24-11 victory over the power-pairing of Stuart Anderson and Paul Foster MBE, with Ed Morris, Nick Brett and Jamie Chestney enjoying a four-shot defeat of Jason Banks, Derek Oliver & Iain McLean.

England enjoyed their third win of the day in the Women’s Fours discipline too, with a nine-shot victory for Sophie Tolchard, Ellen Falkner MBE, Natalie Chestney and Sian Honnor.
