We are committed to make bowls truly accessible by opening up the gateways to our sport and embracing more people irrespective of their background or circumstance.
One of the actions within our ‘Fit for the Future’ strategy is to build new partnerships with like-minded organisations to engage groups of people from outside of our sport.
In 2022 our community activation model stimulated interest from local community groups to have a go at bowls, and 10% of those who tried bowls as a result of this programme converted to membership of a local bowls club.
This summer we will once again be taking bowls to a number of public events and we’re seeking volunteers from clubs and counties to support us at the following events.
You do not have to commit to all day, nor to every day, and support will be available from Bowls England and/or Bowls Development Alliance staff on site.
Bowls Club London
Bowls Club London (BCL) is an events company, which provides fun, bowls experiences for paying customers in the heart of London. This summer they are operating over 22 days across two sites – Finsbury Square and Battersea Park – with attendance expected to top 10,000 in total. Their customers will play bowls for an hour and enjoy music, drinks and food in a festival style atmosphere.
Take a look at their site: www.thebowlsclubldn.com
We will manage the associated branding and media opportunities, ensuring that BCL’s paying customers are engaged and signposted to their nearest Bowls Bash session and/or PlayBowls club. This will increase the likelihood of these people being retained in the sport as they will be able to book online and also enjoy an experience more consistent with that of BCL.
This is a great opportunity for clubs in London and the surrounding counties to bring new people, and additional income, into their clubs.
