Home Nations Invitational | Round Up

11th June, 2022

Day 3: Sunday 12th June

Round Up and Results

Sunday saw a Test Match between Team England and Jersey, as part of the home nation squad continued their preparation for Birmingham 2022. With the showpiece event less than 50 days away, the players will be thrilled with 7 victories from 8 matches – with the only other a draw.

It was hard to select one standout performer from an England viewpoint, but probably Amy Pharaoh would just about take that title. A comprehensive 28-6 victory in the Pairs in the morning session with Sophie Tolchard was followed up with a Singles triumph in the afternoon. Across the entirety of A Green, however, the quality of bowls was excellent and the team management watching on would have been undoubtedly delighted with the progress towards the Games.

On the other Greens, the wider International squad once again played a series of matches against Scotland and there were some excellent performances. Harry Goodwin & Perry Martin squeaked home 15-14 in a Pairs content versus Jason Banks & John Fleming, whilst Rebecca Wilgress, Morgan Merryweather and Lorraine Kuhler achieved a 20-17 win in the Triples in the morning session.

Day 2: Saturday 11th June

Round Up and Results

Another pleasant (if windy) day in Leamington Spa saw some encouraging results for our England players at the Home Nations Invitational. There were solid wins for a number of the European Championships squad, which bodes well with just one month to go until the tournament in Ayr, Scotland. Part of the Commonwealth Games squad will play a Test Match against Jersey on Sunday.

  • Tom McGuinness looked impressive ahead of the European Championships, winning all three of his games, including a solid Triples victory alongside Roger Kendrick and Perry Martin over Jersey.
  • European teammate Lorraine Kuhler also had a good day, skipping a team also consisting of Nicole Rodgers, Paige Dennis and Rachel Tremlett to a 25-5 win over Jersey.
  • Kieron Rollings continued his preparation ahead of Birminham 2022, notably completing a 21-5 triumph over Scotland in a Singles match.
