Individual Competitions 2023

Our competitions are open to players of all abilities – with a range of events designed to meet your individual requirements.

We particularly welcome entries from those who may not have entered one of our competitions before, as this is a great opportunity to improve your game, take on one of our elite athletes and perhaps win a place at the National Finals at Royal Leamington Spa.

All events are organised on a knock-out basis, with the the early rounds played locally and the National Finals at Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa, which hosted the Lawn Bowls and Para Lawn Bowls at Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

So whether you are a regular competitor or new to our sport we have plenty of opportunities for you to get involved.

Men’s Competitions Eligibility Format
Senior Singles Aged 55 and over on 1st April 2023 21 up
Senior Pairs Both players aged 55 and over on 1st April 2023 from clubs within same county Three bowls per player/18 ends
Champion of Champions Singles Club Championship Winners and county/national winners 2022, plus Area Senior Singles Qualifier 21 up

 

Women’s Competitions Eligibility Format
Senior Singles Aged 55 and over on 1st April 2023 21 up
Senior Pairs Both players aged 55 and over on 1st April 2023 from clubs within same county Three bowls per player/18 ends
Champion of Champions Singles Club Championship Winners and county/national winners 2022, plus Area Senior Singles Qualifier 21 up

 

Mixed Competitions
Family Pairs
  • Eligible players should be from one of the following pairings:
    • Grandmother and granddaughter/grandson
    • Grandfather and granddaughter/grandson
    • Mother and daughter/son
    • Father and daughter/son
    • Sister and sister/brother
    • Brother and brother/sister
    • Step relatives of the above are also eligible to play
    • Marriage
    • Civil Partnership
Three bowls per player/18 ends
Mixed Pairs 1 x man/1 x woman;
Both players from clubs within same county
Three bowls per player/18 ends
Mixed Fours 2 x men/2 x women;
All players from clubs within same county
Two bowls per player/18 ends

 

All events are played in accordance with our Rules and Regulations and the current Laws of the Sport of Bowls v4.

Where do I play these matches?
The majority of qualifying rounds are held within your local area on a home or away basis or neutral green. All area winners will qualify for the National Finals.

How are these matches arranged?
Matches during the qualifying rounds are arranged by the players.

When are these competitions played?
The qualifying rounds are held either on weekday evenings or at weekends – this is agreed by the players. The National Finals are held annually at Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa. The schedule for the National Finals 2023 can be found here.

Qualifiers for National Finals

All National Competitions shall comprise of geographic areas to reduce travelling in the early rounds wherever possible. Counties with a high number of entries may be split into two areas, counties with a low number of entries may be paired with a neighbouring county to form an area.
