Stevens defeats Cooper to win Junior Singles title

5th August, 2019

Devon’s Harriet Stevens has won the Women’s Junior Singles, after defeating her Kings BC clubmate Emma Cooper 21-16 in this afternoon’s final.

The event, which is supported by Lynn Pearson in memory of her mother Eileen Pearson, took place at Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa.

Cooper took an early 4-2 lead, before Stevens won five consecutive ends for a 13-4 advantage. Stevens increased her lead to 18-8, before Cooper fought back to reduce the deficit to 18-16.

Stevens, who is currently eight months pregnant, then collected a treble to secure a 21-16 victory in her final eligible year.

Stevens reached the final after defeating Hertfordshire’s Devon Cooper 21-10, whilst Emma Cooper recorded a 21-11 over Hertfordshire’s Becky Maynard.

Earlier in the day, Devon Cooper defeated former-champion Katherine Rednall 21-10, while Stevens secured victory over Sussex’s Maesi Ramsay 21-18 to reach the last four.

Emma Cooper and Becky Maynard both reached the semi-finals with 21-14 victories over Leicestershire’s Kat Bowman and Bedfordshire’s Robyn Hall respectively.

It is just the second time that both finalists have represented the same county in the Women’s Junior Singles, after Jamie-Lea Winch defeated her Warwickshire teammate Kirsty Richards in the final in 2012.
