Obituary: Joan Leon (Essex)

Bowls England is saddened to learn of the recent passing of Joan Leon (Essex) at the age of 101.

Joan, who was an Honorary Member of Bowls England, dedicated many years to the English Women’s Bowling Association, volunteering in the Tournament Office during the EWBA National Championships. Joan was also part of the administrative team that assisted at the Women’s World Bowls Championships that were held at Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa in 1996 and 2004.

Joan was the Secretary for Essex County Women’s Bowling Association for 23 years from 1984 to 2007 and also held the position of President in 1981.

Joan was delightful to work with and a fantastic example of a long-term volunteer who gave so much back to the sport.

Joan’s funeral will take place at 1.15pm on Tuesday 25th February at Hastings Crematorium, 234 The Ridge, Hastings, East Sussex, TN34 2AE, with a wake following at the nearby Bannatyne Spa and Sports Club.

Joan was a remarkable lady who will be remembered and missed by many.
