Penny Maguire – Obituary

18th August, 2026

Bowls England regrets to announce that Penny Maguire, a familiar face to bowlers and administrators having served Bowls England for more than 15 years prior to her retirement in 2021, passed away earlier today.

In her role as Business Services Manager, Penny’s main priorities were the financial management of the company and day-to-day running of the office.  Alongside this, she led the Bowls England National Finals, intent on providing a positive experience for bowlers and guests at the pinnacle of the summer season.  In addition, she was instrumental in the development of the Visually Impaired Bowlers World Blind Bowlers Championship in 2013 and put a lot of personal effort into raising funds for the event.

Jon Cockcroft, Bowls England Chief Executive, said;

“Penny’s contribution to Bowls England, and our sport, was significant over more than a decade and across many areas.  She was a committed member of the team, relocating to Royal Leamington Spa from Worthing, and respected by her colleagues for her diligence and loyalty.  Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this sad time.”

Any further details will be shared when received.
