One of the purposes of domestic play is to provide a springboard to the next level of competition, international. These events are the highest quality of junior and inter-county team competition, delivering great sport in their own right but also best preparing players to represent their country.
The inter-county events will all mirror formats at World level – therefore ensuing that players can learn and test themselves in front of the England Performance Team in the bid for international selection.
The introduction of the Boys and Girls U17 Singles creates a clearer junior player pathway and demonstrates our commitment to boosting junior participation and to compete with players of a similar age. The winners of these two events will represent England in the 2026 British Bowls Championships.
The age limit in all other junior events has been standardised to under 24 (on 1 April annually) which creates a joined-up junior player pathway and the opportunity for players identified during event to potentially experience junior international bowls in following season as part of performance progression.
