Restart Grants available for bowls clubs

22nd April, 2021

Bowls clubs may be entitled to a one-off cash grant of up to £18,000 from their local council.

The government’s Restart Grant scheme supports businesses in the non-essential retail, hospitality, leisure, personal care and accommodation sectors with a one-off grant, to reopen safely as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

Another £425 million is also being provided to local authorities in England to put towards discretionary business grant funding. Local councils will use their discretion to determine whether businesses meet the eligibility criteria for this grant scheme.

Your club may be eligible if it is:

  • based in England
  • rate-paying
  • in the non-essential retail, hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care or gym sectors
  • trading on 1 April 2021 (please note: this does not mean that bowling activity had recommenced by this date)

Visit your local council’s website to find out how to apply.

Note: This grant is taxable and should be declared in your tax return. Only businesses which make an overall profit once grant income is included will be subject to tax.
