Rob Short to join as Head of Communications

24th March, 2021

Bowls England is delighted to announce that Rob Short will be joining its leadership team on 29th March, taking on the new role of Head of Communications.

Rob’s focus will be to enhance the profile and perception of the sport, engage existing bowlers with inspiring content and ensure we communicate effectively with our clubs, counties and other key stakeholders.  With the Commonwealth Games fast approaching, Lawn Bowls has a great opportunity to showcase its qualities as an accessible and enjoyable outdoor sport.

Rob has excelled in various sport communications and marketing roles since leaving University in 2013. These included notable positions with Essex County Cricket Club, Chelmsford City Racecourse and the Jockey Club. In 2019, he became Senior Marketing Manager for the YONEX All England Open Badminton Championships, leading the marketing of the most prestigious tournament on the BWF World Tour. Rob’s remit was to drive ticketing income, whilst implementing an effective and engaging communications strategy. He oversaw the digital channels’ growth to over 200,000, an increase of over 100%.

Bowls England Chief Executive, Jon Cockcroft, said: “Rob presented himself superbly during the interview process and his experience and energy are exactly what we are looking for in this exciting role.  With a greater emphasis on communications and Birmingham 2022 on the horizon, we have a huge opportunity to celebrate our sport’s intrinsic qualities.  I am looking forward to working with Rob to open more people’s minds to the joy of bowls.”

Rob added: “I am over the moon to be joining Bowls England. In conversations with Jon and the team, I can see how fantastic the prospects for the sport are, and the passion of the players, staff and wider community shines through. I cannot wait to get started.”
