Rugby Police BC raise over £1,450 for The Myton Hospices

22nd November, 2019

At their AGM on Tuesday 12th November 2019, Rugby Police Bowls Club in Warwickshire presented a cheque for £1,462.28 to Anita Burrows, the Community Fundraiser for The Myton Hospices.

The money was raised by the club with some help from members of other bowls clubs, throughout the Rugby area. Rugby Police Bowls Club members donated bottles and other prizes, to be raffled at matches and other fund-raising events. These included a very successful club meal and summer barbecue, arranged by members, together with collections at internal competitions within the club. Additional money was also collected on this years’ annual, long weekend tour to South Devon.

The charity was chosen this year, as Rugby Police Bowls Club’s Past President, Secretary and Match Secretary, Ray Candelent, sadly passed away in November 2018. The charity had provided support for him and his late wife Joy, during her illness six years ago. As well as, in the past, having supported other members of the club, together with fellow bowlers from within the town and further afield.

Anita Burrows, Community Fundraiser at The Myton Hospices, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Rugby Police Bowls Club for their continued support! It was fantastic to meet the members at their AGM and thank them in person for raising such an amazing amount of money.”

In her thanks to the club, Anita gave a brief talk of the services that Myton have to offer, at no cost, to their patients and families. She explained the difference that the money would make and the types of expenses that it would help to cover, as well as some of the new services that The Myton Hospices have recently introduced, to cover the needs of a wider community.

Secretary of the club, Rosemarie Geden, said: “The Myton Hospices are entirely dependent on donations to continue their invaluable work and we know that this money will, in a small way, help someone who is terminally ill, as well as supporting their family. Rugby Police Bowls Club have a policy of supporting locally based charities and in the past ten years, this is the fifth occasion that the Club has chosen The Myton Hospices to receive their charity money. For a small club such as ours, this is an outstanding effort, of which all members should be very proud and I would like to thank each and every one of them for their continued generosity and support, year in year out.”
