Sam has translated his family pedigree into domestic and international success, with medal wins at the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The Tolchard family has lived and breathed the sport throughout the generations. His late grandfather, Tommy Tolchard, was an England international while his father Ray played for his county, Devon.
He made his International junior debut in 2004 at the Youth Commonwealth Games in Australia, where he secured silver in the Singles. The confidence gained from this performance provided a springboard for later success.
His senior career was arguably launched at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, where he secured a bronze medal in the Pairs.
Building on his Commonwealth experience from four years’ prior, Sam secured another bronze in the Fours at the 2018 Games on the Gold Coast in Queensland.
He continues to add to a long list of domestic and national titles, most recently securing his sixth and seventh Men’s National Championship titles in 2021 with wins in both the Singles and the Two-Wood.
With a shot at glory at Leamington, Sam will be determined to send a home crowd into raptures this summer.
