Sport England Update on Step 3

7th May, 2021

We’re delighted that car sharing, spectators and indoor hospitality are expected to be permitted as part of Step 3 of the government’s roadmap, according to the latest update from Sport England.

SE has today (Friday 7th May) updated its frequently asked questions ahead of Step 3, which will come into force no earlier than 17 May and will be valid until Step 4 (no earlier than 21 June).

We recognise that the current restrictions on car sharing and spectators in particular have been a barrier to participation for some players and made representation to government on behalf of our affiliated clubs.

Please note this represents Sport England’s current understanding of the position and is subject to change as government guidance has not yet been released.

The government will give a week’s notice before Step 3 comes into force and we’ll update our ‘return to play’ guidance for all affiliated clubs when that date is confirmed.

This would also represent fantastic news for Bowls’ Big Weekend, now just three weeks’ away. This promises to be a showcase for our sport, and the easing of restrictions will hopefully see more people coming to clubs up and down the country.

There’s still time for your club to register their open events here or you can sign up to attend here.
