For Val Molton, winning the Women’s Senior Pairs title at the Aviva National Finals last summer wasn’t just about lifting the trophy – it was about sharing an unforgettable moment with her close friend and playing partner, Lindsay.
“It was just amazing. The best feeling ever,” Val said. “Of course, winning is always great, but there is no better feeling than to have achieved this with one of my best mates.”
The victory was the culmination of months of dedication and determination, and for Val, it was the ultimate reward for her efforts. “Winning a national title means the absolute world to me and really is a dream come true,” she explained. “It was an amazing feeling, and I was so proud to be representing my club and county.”

With the 2025 National Bowls Championships on the horizon, Val has her sights set on further success. “To qualify again in this discipline, repeat our success and retain the title would be the ultimate goal,” she said. “To be honest, to qualify in any discipline and get through to Leamington is a goal I set myself every year.”
Alongside her own playing ambitions, Val will also be leading the next generation of talent in her role as Team Manager for Gloucestershire’s Amy Rose squad. “I am very excited about the changes to the format for this competition, with the goal for this team being to win their region and get to Leamington.”
Reflecting on her journey, Val credits the National Competitions with helping to develop her game. “Playing against the strongest possible opponents really helped to develop my game. The experience gained supports other skills required to succeed at this level, such as retaining focus and discipline under pressure, as well as the belief you can achieve success.”
For those considering entering the National Competitions for the first time, Val has some simple advice: “Do it. You’ve got to start somewhere, and this is a great way to improve your game. 2024 was the first year that Lindsay and I entered together, so if we can qualify, get through to a National final and win it, then there’s no reason you can’t either.”
And for those who do take on the challenge? “Take it one game at a time, be positive and believe you can lift that trophy.”

If you’re feeling inspired by Val’s story, why not enter this year’s National Bowls Championships? It could be your turn to create an unforgettable moment on the famous greens of Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa.
