Taking place over the Spring Bank Holiday of the 2021 season (Friday 28th to Monday 31st May), Bowls’ Big Weekend is a national initiative offering clubs the opportunity to promote our welcoming and socially-distanced sport and attract new members. We know that 20% of new bowlers join our sport on the back of open weekends, that our clubs want support to help recruit new players and that there are plenty of people out there who would love to have a go at bowls.

Bowls’ Big Weekend is open to clubs affiliated to Bowls England and British Crown Green Bowling Association, and is being run alongside the Bowls Development Alliance and Disability Bowls England. It takes place over the four-day period allowing clubs to organise activity that best fits within their club’s calendar and complies with Return to Play guidance.

Affiliated clubs who sign up will be able to access FREE resources, including bowls-specific workshops to help run a great event and grow your club. In addition, publicity material and creative resources for social media channels, websites and within your local community will be made available. It will be supported by a national marketing campaign to help raise awareness of the events across the country, and some clubs will get a visit from an England Commonwealth Games Squad bowler.

This a fantastic opportunity for us to get people back out on to the greens this summer and we hope as many clubs as possible will get involved. Some of our most frequently asked questions can be found below.

FAQ’s

When can my club sign up for Bowls’ Big Weekend?
To ensure that you are the first to receive notification when new material is available, as well as being on our exclusive mailing list for workshops where numbers are strictly limited, SIGN-UP HERE. Clubs will be able to register their event information mid-April – all clubs will be informed when this is available.

What marketing materials will be available and when will my club be able to access them?
There will be a range of digital posters available for you to insert your club and event details on, in addition to posters and banners available for print. These will be available to you after you have registered your event in mid-April.

My club could use guidance in planning our Bowls’ Big Weekend event, is their further support available?
Courses will be available for clubs to book onto in partnership with the Bowls Development Alliance, including guidance on marketing and engaging your local community. We will also be sharing guides advising clubs on best practices for planning, delivering and following up on their Bowls’ Big Weekend event.

Can we run more than one Bowls’ Big Weekend event?
Yes! Having multiple options for people over the course of the weekend is a great way to ensure as many people as possible have the opportunity to attend. It also allows you to plan these flexibly around your clubs diary.

We have an open day arranged but it’s not during these dates, can we still sign up?
Yes. The majority of our marketing materials and digital advertising campaign will be aligned to Bowls’ Big Weekend, however, we want all of our affiliated clubs to be able benefit from the support available.
