Alright, we know what you’re thinking! Didn’t Barry from EastEnders sing at a bowls event? Who sent me that video of an incredible bowls shot not so long ago? Isn’t bowls just slow and boring?

Well, if you’ve got this far and keen to read on, you must be ready for a new career challenge, be the kind of person who is open-minded to fresh possibilities or, perhaps, you’re just one of the 100s of 1000s of people who has already fallen in love with our sport.

Male Junior Vice President

This role is a key ambassadorial position for Bowls England. The honour comes with the responsibility to represent our organisation and the sport in a manner which reflects our ambitions and values. It is not an operational or policy-making position.

The ideal candidate should be passionate about Bowls England and the future of our sport, with a strong track record of contributing positively to bowls in our country. They should be comfortable working in a public relations role alongside peers, board, staff and volunteers. They should promote Bowls England and our sport, seek to represent our diverse community and uphold the highest ethical standards.

Presidential Team responsibilities include:

• Acting as a positive ambassador for both Bowls England and our sport.
• Advocating our ‘Fit of the Future’ Strategy, our organisation’s policies and communicate Bowls England’s messages.
• Representing Bowls England at our national events including our Aviva National Finals, Annual Awards Event, Champions Dinner etc.
• Celebrating with our clubs during our Celebration Match fixtures.
• Attending and recognising achievements at County and Club functions.
• Public speaking including speeches at our Champions Dinner and Celebration Match fixtures.

The ideal candidate will:

• Command the respect of the lawn bowls community and be content in performing an ambassadorial role.
• Have a breadth of experience of bowls and will have made a significant contribution to our sport in this country.
• Have passion for the development and growth of our sport.
• Be comfortable at speaking in public and being in a public-facing role.
• Be a great team-player, subscribing to our ethos, and able to work effectively within the Presidential team and with Bowls England board and staff.
• Be able to commit the time and energy required to fulfil the responsibilities of the role.

Whilst we would welcome nominations from anyone who feels they have experience and skills that could benefit the board, we would particularly encourage nominations of prospective board members who have experience in –

• Performance Sport – whether it is lawn bowls or another sport, as Bowls England is developing its Performance Strategy and Player Pathway, it would be advantageous for to have a board member who has played at a high level of lawn bowls, ideally international, or been involved in high performance sport.

• Digital/IT/Technology – as we strive to ensure Bowls England, and our sport more generally, embraces the digital revolution and keeps up to speed with the latest technologies, we would welcome nominations from those who skills and experiences in those areas of work.

• PR/Communications/Media – a key strategic priority is to increase the visibility of lawn bowls in the mainstream media and, as such, we would encourage those who have a background in communications and media to consider being part of the Bowls England board.

• Human Resources/People – Bowls England is a people-centric organisation and we work in partnership with amazing volunteers at all levels of our sport. Experience in people management and creating high performing teams, would be add value to board discussions.
