Today (Saturday 1st July) at the National Centre for Bowling in Ayr, Scotland, players from all nations were put to the test in challenging conditions. However, that didn’t stop teams delivering captivating contests on Day Two of The British Isles International Series.
It’s double delight for England’s Women’s teams as both the Lions and Eagles sit top of their tables.
Scotland lead the way in both Men’s tables with Scotland Saltires top of Section One and Scotland Thistle top of Section Two.
Session Four
Cymru Women won 8 points to 2 against Jersey Women with the overall score 76-64. Jersey Men however beat Cymru thanks to winning the overall score 69-64 and claiming 6 points.
Derek Boswell and Malcolm De Sousa (Jersey) beat Jordan Davies and Jarrad Breen (Cymru) 15-14 in the Men’s Pairs.
It was a 5-5 draw between England Eagles Men and Scotland Saltire Men with Saltire winning 51-50 overall. England Eagles Women secured 8 points against Scotland Saltire Women and scored 64 shots to 52.
Session Five
Wales Women bagged a 6-4 point win over Ireland Emeralds Women with the overall score 82-54.
Lauren Selway and Caroline Taylor (Wales) saw off Grace Henry and Donna McCloy (Ireland Shamrocks) in the Women’s Pairs 26-7.
Ireland Emeralds Men beat Wales Men 6-4 on points and 72-59 on shots.
England Lions Women claimed a convincing victory against Scotland Thistle taking 8 points and scoring 62 shots to 48.
Stef Branfield (England Lions) made an impact on the overall score as she won the Singles 21-6 against Natalie McWilliams (Scotland Thistle).
Scotland Thistle Men edged a tight contest as they beat England Lions Men 6-4 on points and 69-68 on shots.
Session Six
All play was suspended for 15 minutes due to high winds and heavy downpours leading to unsafe playing conditions but play swiftly resumed once the playing conditions improved.
Ireland Shamrocks Women beat Scotland Saltire Women 7-3 on points and 62-58 on shots.
Diane Canavan, Tracey O’Connor and Chloe Greechan (Ireland Shamrocks) overcame Kara Lees, Paula Preston and Rachel Sinclair (Scotland Saltire) 22-11 in the Triples.
Scotland Saltire Men got the better of Ireland Shamrocks Men as they won 8-2 on points and 66-52 on shots.
Cymru Men sealed an impressive 8-2 point win against England Eagles Men. Daniel Salmon won the Singles 21-11 against Perry Martin as Cymru won 77-49 overall.
England Eagles Women won 70 shots to 61 overall against Cymru Women but the match ended in a 5-5 draw on points.
Session Seven
In the last session of the day, England Lions Men and Women secured wins against Ireland Emeralds. The Women stormed to an 8-2 victory on points, scoring 92 shots to Ireland Emerald’s 43. Rebecca Moorbey and Michelle Coleman (England Lions) beat Grace Henry and Donna McCloy 25-5.
England Lions Men took a marginal win as they claimed 6 points and won the overall score 67-65.
Scotland Thistle Men won overall shots by the same score line over Wales. Mark Kelsey, Andy Furye, Gary Prunty and Grant Logan won 22-10 against Wales’ Ben Matthews, Ryan Davies, Danny Davis Jnr and Steve Harris in the Men’s Fours.
In the Women’s contest, Scotland Thistle won 8-2 on points and 71-62 on shots.
