We are pleased to unveil our 2023 Annual Report, which will be presented at the Bowls England Annual General Meeting on Saturday 24th February.
2023 was an important year for the sport, as bowls looked to build a legacy following the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
With bowls clubs nationwide striving to grow the game through initiatives like Bowls’ Big Weekend, Bowls Bash and PlayBowls, it was hugely satisfying to see a rise in the number of people playing our great sport. On average, clubs taking part in Bowls’ Big Weekend 2023 welcomed 31 new bowlers to their club, up from 16 in 2022.
The report also celebrates the success of the Aviva National Finals, which served as a fitting conclusion to the 2023 competitions calendar. Through live streaming and enhanced hospitality offerings, Bowls England aims to elevate the profile of National Competitions while driving revenue to support grassroots initiatives.
Significant achievements by our international teams in 2023, including securing World Championship gold and British Isles gold, are highlighted. These underscore the talent of international players and the efforts of our Performance Team, led by Mo Monkton.
The report concludes with acknowledgments for the dedicated volunteers, staff, and stakeholders who contribute to the sport’s success. With the ongoing implementation of the Fit for the Future strategy, Bowls England remains steadfast in its commitment to realizing the benefits of playing bowls.
