After two decades of stellar performances on the international stage, Wendy King, one of the most decorated bowlers, has announced her retirement from the International stage.
Wendy’s illustrious career spanned from 2004 to 2023, during which she amassed an impressive collection of achievements and accolades.
Wendy earned her first international cap in 2004. Over the years, she represented her country with great pride, accumulating an impressive tally of 64 caps.
Performance Director Mo Monkton said, “On behalf of the Performance Team I would like to thank Wendy for her dedication, commitment and passion shown when representing England over the years.
“Wendy has been an integral member of the squad and involved in many of England’s great successes. Her professional approach and amazing team spirit has been an inspiration to not only her teammates but others aspiring to represent their country.
“Her experience and good humour will be missed, but I have no doubt that we will see Wendy competing on the greens and at the National Finals for many years to come, and I wish her all the very best.”
The first defining moment of Wendy’s career came in 2008 at the World Bowls Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand, where she clinched the silver medal in the Pairs event alongside partner Ellen Falkner.
In 2013, Wendy enjoyed elation on the European stage, where she clinched gold in the Mixed Fours event alongside her teammates Jamie-Lea Marshall, Jamie Walker and Robert Paxton. She also secured silver in the European Women’s Pairs event alongside Jamie-Lea, while the team sealed the European Team Gold Medal.
The year 2015 saw Wendy’s remarkable performances continue as she claimed bronze medals in the Atlantic Fours and Pairs women’s events. Her efforts played an instrumental role in guiding the team to gold in the Atlantic Team event.
Off the international stage, Wendy enjoyed success on the domestic front, clinching national titles throughout her career, including the National Women’s Triples in 2001, alongside Yvonne Wallington and Linda Ryan. She also was victorious twice in the National Women’s Two Bowl Singles, winning in 2006 and 2009.
