Update on 2010 Business Rate Valuations for Bowls ClubsAs part of every Members affiliation fee, Bowls England represents the voice of all affiliated members. Bowls England has taken the following action on behalf of all its Members following the release of the Business Rates Valuations for 2010, which proposed substantial increases for some clubs: - Identified Business Rates Valuations as an important item by the Board of Bowls England
- News release issued to all clubs and counties to raise awareness of new valuation process and asking for local experiences
- Data collected from clubs and report produced
- Advice sought from Bowls England’s solicitors, Wright Hassall
In light of the responses received from clubs and Wright Hassall, Bowls England is considering a ‘block representation’ on behalf of clubs through one of the recommended professional bodies and will keep Members fully informed through this process. Woman Bowler of the Year awards Derbyshire’s Jean Baker was named Cyclo-ssage/Henselite Bowls England Woman Bowler of the Year at the Bowls England Women’s Annual Dinner & Presentation.
England international Baker rewrote the record books with her victory in the Women’s National Pairs Championship alongside Lynne Bowen at Royal Leamington Spa – as it was the only major national outdoor title she had not previously lifted. Warwickshire’s Jamie-Lea Winch was named Bowls International/Bowls England Young Woman Bowler of the Year for the second successive year. Winch, who plays for Bilton Bowls Club, won the British Isles Junior Singles title and made her senior international debut during a busy summer. And these impressive performances helped Jamie-Lea to force her way into the England team for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Click here for the Woman Bowler of the Year news release. Equality GuidanceBowls England has received many enquiries from counties, clubs and individuals regarding equality. The following guidance has been prepared to inform all Members on the current position and the Equality Bill currently going through Parliament, which contains specific references to clubs and associations. In addition, the Bill also addresses price concessions and marketing targeted at particular age-groups. Bowls England will keep Members informed of any new legislation that may have a direct impact on counties, clubs and individuals.
