Club of the Year

White Hall BC in Essex won the 2016 ‘Club of the Year’ crown – finally taking the title having been runner-up in 2014.

The prestigious title, generously supported by Drakes Pride, is awarded annually to the club that is judged to have shown the greatest efforts to promote the club, increase membership and work with the local community.

White Hall BC demonstrated continued improvement to beat off stiff competition from runners-up Gildredge Park BC (Sussex) and fellow finalists Fitz Park BC (Cumbria) and Wellington BC (Somerset) to claim the title.

Bowls England Chief Executive Tony Allcock MBE said: “Bowls England had a record number of entries in the competition in 2016, which provided the judging panel with a number of tough choices in determining both the regional shortlist and, of course, the final result. However, it was unanimously felt that White Hall BC’s continuous efforts to increase membership gave them the edge over all other entries – indeed our judges in their final report commented that it is difficult to comprehend just what the club has achieved over the last few years. Finally, I wish to thank Drakes Pride for their continued support of this competition.”

The Award was introduced in order to recognise the work that clubs across the country do to promote the sport and increase participation.
