Top England talent to officiate at Birmingham 2022

Bowls England is delighted to announce that seven of our top umpires have been selected to officiate at Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The seven successful candidates are:

Dan Bluett (Wiltshire)

Tony Hatch (Essex)

Bernie Hill (Lancashire)

Susan Mates (Kent)

Robert Penny (Essex)

Angela Thompson (Somerset)

Allan Thornhill (Surrey)

This will be a first Commonwealth Games for four of the team – Tony Hatch, Bernie Hill, Susan Mates and Robert Penny.

A total of 36 umpires from eight countries will officiate during the nine days of competition at Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa, from Friday 29th July to Saturday 6th August.

The remaining officials are drawn from Australia, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales.
